What’cha Wanna Know Wednesday Q&A

Apple Cider Vinegar {ACV}
What’cha Wanna Know Wednesday

+multiple uses  +a true superfood  +inexpensive  +healthy swap

This post goes out to my new aunt since marriage, Annie! Thank you for posting your question on WWKW, anyone reading, don’t forget to post your topics on FB, I love answering you all!

When buying ensure:

  • it’s organic!-avoids pesticides and chemicals
  • it’s unpasteurized!-remains raw which has the highest amount of benefit
  • it contains the mother -the culture of beneficial bacteria that turns apple cider into vinegar

My favourite brand:

  • Filsingers over Bragg, I like that Filsingers is stored in glass, has a nicer taste and it’s Canadian <3

Difference between vinegar & apple cider vinegar:
Apple cider vinegar contains multiple types of antioxidants called polyphenols which can have beneficial effects on health. Regular vinegar is made by fermenting grain alcohol where apple cider vinegar is made from well, apples. Apple cider vinegar is higher in amino acids, vitamins, beneficial bacteria and beneficial enzymes. I consider white vinegar to be better for cleaning and disinfecting and apple cider vinegar better to use with food and as a health staple.

-Can kill bacteria due to its high acetic acid content
-Been around for over 5,000 years, dated back to Hippocrates.
-Has a long expiry date
-Simple healthy swap from white vinegar

Multiple Uses Such As:

  • Relieves acid reflux and heart burn by combining 1tbsp with cup of water and drink 5 minutes before meals.
  • Perfect for homemade salad dressings. Can be replaced for regular vinegar in all recipes.
  • Can be added to a natural DIY facial toner, be sure to combine 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water and essential oils to prevent it from drying your face out.
  • Great addition to daily detox habits, it corrects the PH level in your body.
  • Using ACV in cooking and as a daily detox drink{recipe below} can reduce sugar cravings.
  • ACV can breakup mucus in your body, making it a great addition to your cold and flu remedies.
  • Taken before meals to help ramp up your digestive fire and help reduce bloating and gas. It also can help naturally increase stomach acid.
  • Can be used as a natural deodorizer in your pits. Try dabbing some ACV after the shower in your pits, to stay fresh all day. You may want to test with one pit first, don’t do right after you have shaved {OUCH}.
  • Great natural remedy for sore throats.
  • Over popcorn as a salt and vinegar flavouring.
  •  Create healthy buttermilk by adding it to nut milk or organic soy milk

I love following Dr Axe, his website has great information, he has a ton of healthy recipes, including this detox drink that features, you guessed it, ACV!!

I wouldn’t have thought I would like it on my popcorn when Steph first suggested it, but it’s actually really good. Thanks for the tip!
